Great places to eat near Stanlake Park

Author: Derek Walklate

In the Stanlake Park cellar shop & wine bar you can buy a variety of snacks to accompany your wine including award winning cheeses, olives, cured meats etc. However, if you are looking for something a little more substantial but want to continue drinking Stanlake Park wines, there are a number of places to eat near Twyford.

If you are looking for something a little spicy to go with your Madeleine (which they stock) then try the nearby Haweli Indian restaurant in Twyford. It has great reviews and is an airy white table-clothed restaurant with a Shisha lounge for clay oven Tandoori dishes and curries. The achari ghost with mouth-watering barbequed lamb has to be one of the favourites.

If you want to continue drinking Regatta, then try the Buratta’s at The Royal Oak in nearby Ruscombe (equidistant to Stanlake Park as Tywford).  It is an eclectically furnished establishment with homely food including bar bites and an antique shop! It has excellent reviews on Trip Advisor especially the haloumi fingers and smoked salmon seafood cocktail.

Other very good restaurants in Berkshire

A little further afield, but well worth visiting, is the PAN Restaurant in Wokingham. Apart from serving delicious pan-Asian cuisine they stock the Rosé Superior and also King's Fumé.  If you fancy a local beer instead, they also offer a selection of nearby Siren beers.  It’s a quality restaurant with a wooden interior over 2 levels. The Santadakgang popcorn chicken is worthy of a mention and is a mouthful in every sense of the word.  Likewise the baked mackeral with wasabi foam and coriander is delicious.

If you prefer fine dining then try visiting the Latymer in Pennyhill Park (Bagshot) which has been awarded a Michelin star in 2021. They serve Stanlake Park’s Madeleine and Pinot Noir. As well as stocking local wines, they also use locally sourced produce for their food. They provide exquisite tasting menu’s in an intimate and luxurious environment and is a must for that special occasion.

If you love a great steak (or meat in general) then go to the Shurlock Inn at nearby Shurlock Row.  It’s been a country pub since the 17th Century and under the current owners has established itself as THE place to go for a steak. Nico, our winemaker, has a reputation for his meat eating so it was high praise when he stated that he had possibly one of his best steaks ever here. Although the Inn doesn’t sell Stanlake Park wines at the moment, we understand that this will soon change.

Finally, many other pubs and coffee shops in the area sell our wines - have a look at our Stockists for more information.

Other nearby places to eat but do not stock Stanlake Park wines are the Green Man at Hurst which is another 17th century pub serving good food in pleasant surroundings. A proper local country pub serving local produce.

Stanlake Park is blessed for local traditional country pubs and they don’t come much older than the 14th Century Bell at Waltham St Lawrence. It has many original features including an indoor well and large garden. They do a small selection of local food and real ales. Its history lends itself to being an ideal lunch spot for overseas visitors although on the occasion I visited with Nico and Natalia, they were unable to offer their usual menu.  I also visited here with Ronnie Vannucci from the Las Vegas band The Killers who was in awe of its history and somewhat bemused by the locals.

We are also lucky to be so close to a couple of villages/towns which are home to celebrity chefs.  Heston Blumenthal owns 3 restaurants in the village of Bray whilst Tom Kerridge owns 3 restaurants in nearby Marlow.  All are worth a visit although I do prefer their pub food rather than their wallet sapping restaurants as the food is equally delicious.
