Our relationship with JORDAN

When Peter and Annette Dart bought Stanlake Park in 2004 they had a vision of the future for the Estate. Growing grapes in England is difficult, and whilst the quality of English wine has improved considerably over the past 20 years, many of the world's classic varieties will probably never grow successfully here in Berkshire.

Consumers of wine have also become more sophisticated and demand a more comprehensive selection. In developing the Stanlake Park Cellar shop it was therefore decided to develop the range, whilst keeping the English wine made at Stanlake at the core.

Several possibilities were explored, the criteria being 1.Quality of the product 2.Complementary varieties 3.Family run 4.Wine not available in mass market. South Africa was seen as a wine-producing area that is under-marketed and where the quality of wine generally exceeds the image. The wines of Kathy and Gary Jordan in Stellenbosch best matched our criteria and a successful partnership was launched in May 2006 when Kathy and Gary visited Stanlake Park for a launch event.

The Jordans have been making world-class wines since 1993 on a farm with a history dating back some 300 years. The Estate is some ten times bigger than Stanlake Park and specialises in the classic varieties that we cannot currently grow successfully in England: Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc etc.
